Crispy Breaded Tofu Strips

Ingredients:

 

Tofu Marinade:

16 oz. extra firm tofu, pressed

1 ½ tablespoons soy sauce

3 tablespoons ketchup

1 ½ teaspoons maple syrup

¾ teaspoon sriracha hot chili sauce

2 tablespoons olive or canola oil

¾ teaspoon ground cumin

¾ teaspoon ground coriander

1 teaspoon minced garlic or garlic powder

½ teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons cornstarch

 

Breadcrumb Coating:

1 ½ cups plain Panko breadcrumbs

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cayenne

1 tablespoon nutritional yeast

 

Directions:

1. Slice the tofu into 8 rectangles. Press tofu for 30 minutes between towel and a heavy weight to remove excess moisture.

2. Mix the marinade ingredients. Slice the 8 rectangles in half. Dip the tofu in the  marinade and coat all sides to make an even coating. Place tofu strips in a container with a lid and refrigerate for an hour.

3. Make the breadcrumb coating by mixing all ingredients together.

4. Place each tofu strip in the breadcrumb mixture. Flip to coat all sides.

5. Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat on the stove. Brush oil on the pan. You can also you spray with some cooking spray too! Place the breaded tofu on the pan. Cook 7 to 9 minutes on each side or until brown strips appear.

Note:

To bake: Bake at preheated 425 degrees F oven for 30 minutes or longer until crisp, flipping half-way through.
